Oxfam reaction to new biofuel mandates

By

In reaction to the Environmental Protection Agency proposed new volume requirements for biofuels announced today, Eric Muñoz, Oxfam America's Senior Agriculture Policy Advisor, made the following statement:

"Today’s announcement by the EPA to reduce the overall US biofuel mandate is a move in the right direction to address unsustainable corn ethanol production created by an artificial market.

"However, this is not nearly enough to correct the harm that biofuel production creates. It is the responsibility of Congress, not the EPA, to step up and fix the RFS so that we can pursue a sustainable pathway to clean energy that does not disrupt global food markets, compromise the environment or jeopardize the resiliency of our precious agricultural land."
