In response to the media reports that the Trump Administration will file the Paris Agreement withdrawal letter to the UNFCCC today, Oxfam America's Climate and Energy Director, Heather Coleman, made the following statement:
"This reckless move by President Trump demonstrates that he has no real intent to 'renegotiate' the Paris climate agreement, and would rather walk back from our international climate commitments altogether.
"This seemingly bureaucratic move threatens the lives of millions of poor people around the world who are most vulnerable to the dangerous impacts of climate change. This is playing out before our eyes with more than 13 million people on the brink of famine in East Africa today driven by a prolonged drought that has been made worse by climate change.
"As we saw at the G7 and G20 summits, the US remains isolated on the issue, with the rest of the world unapologetically and decisively moving forward to collectively address one of the great crises of our time.
"Given that poll after poll shows that most Americans want stronger action on climate change, it's no surprise that this bureaucratic move is being made on a quiet Friday in Washington."
