Oxfam’s response to Michael Bloomberg’s announcement providing funding to international climate diplomacy

By

Oxfam America’s Director of Climate Change, Heather Coleman made the following statement today in regard to Michael Bloomberg’s announced donation to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to support the Paris Agreement:

Oxfam welcomes Michael Bloomberg’s announced donation to step in and fund the U.S. 2018 contribution to the UNFCCC. It’s encouraging to see leaders like Bloomberg step up to support multilateral institutions that advance and support climate solutions, especially given the urgency of the climate crisis. However, the Trump Administration must nonetheless follow through on our country’s commitment to regularly fund important diplomatic efforts like the UNFCCC. The U.S. Senate unanimously ratified the UNFCCC treaty in 1992, and it’s up to national governments to contribute to its important work around the globe.

Oxfam will continue to engage and push the Trump Administration and Congress to follow through and provide these funds in the coming fiscal year.
