Statement by Abby Maxman, Oxfam America President and CEO, in response to rising anti-Muslim and anti-Semitic fueled violence in the United States:

By

“Oxfam’s mission is to fight inequality and injustice in all its forms. Oxfam vehemently condemns the rise in both anti-Semitic and anti-Muslim sentiments and hate-fueled violence that is rearing its ugly head across the United States. As the world continues to reckon with the conflict in Israel and the Gaza strip, we share both in the Jewish community’s fears of surging anti-Semitism, which is sharply on the rise around the world, and the Muslim community’s fears of rising Islamophobia and increasing anti-Arab and anti-Muslim sentiments, which have already led to the horrifying murder of a 6-year-old Palestinian-American boy in Illinois, Wadea Al-Fayoume. We share in his family’s heartbreak.

“Oxfam is working towards a world where people can live free from fear and persecution. It’s why we are demanding an end to hostilities in Israel and Gaza, the safe return of all Israeli hostages, and that humanitarian aid be allowed to reach people in dire need in Gaza. And it’s why we will continue to call out and denounce systemic racism, hate, and discrimination at home and around the world.”
